AOD-9604

Also known as HGH fragment 176-191 · growth hormone fragment

PreliminarySubcutaneous injectionOralNot FDA-approved as a drug; development as an obesity medication was discontinued around 2007. Has been granted GRAS status as a food ingredient (distinct from drug approval); in the US, accessed via compounding pharmacies on prescription.

AOD-9604 is a synthetic peptide corresponding to a C-terminal fragment of human growth hormone (the segment that gives rise to its alternate name, HGH fragment 176-191). It was engineered to mimic the lipolytic (fat-mobilizing) actions of growth hormone without its effects on blood glucose or growth. Early-phase trials reported it was generally tolerated but did not show enough efficacy to advance as a commercial obesity drug.
