Emerging researchOralNot FDA-approved (branded Androxal received an FDA Complete Response Letter in 2015 and was never approved); available through compounding pharmacies

Enclomiphene is the trans-isomer of clomiphene and a selective estrogen receptor modulator (SERM). By blocking estrogen receptors at the pituitary, it increases LH and FSH output, which raises the body's own testosterone production while tending to preserve sperm production. It has been studied as a fertility-preserving alternative to testosterone replacement in men with secondary hypogonadism.

Studied / used for

  • Studied for secondary (hypogonadotropic) hypogonadism in men
  • Studied for raising endogenous testosterone while maintaining spermatogenesis
  • Studied as a fertility-sparing alternative to TRT

Commonly reported side effects

  • Headache
