Glutathione is an antioxidant tripeptide made in the body from three amino acids that helps neutralize free radicals, supports detoxification, and maintains cellular redox balance. It is used orally as a supplement and offered by some clinics as an intravenous or injectable preparation, including for skin-lightening. Evidence for systemic and cosmetic benefits is mixed, and dermatology and pharmacology reviews caution against injectable use for skin lightening given limited evidence and safety concerns.
