MOTS-c

Also known as Mitochondrial ORF of the twelve S rRNA type-c · mitochondrial-derived peptide

PreliminarySubcutaneous injectionNot FDA-approved for any indication; research compound. Not an approved drug; sometimes obtained via compounding pharmacies or research-chemical suppliers.

MOTS-c is a short peptide encoded within the mitochondrial 12S rRNA gene. In preclinical models it activates AMPK signaling and influences glucose, fatty-acid, and mitochondrial metabolism, and it has been described as an exercise-responsive regulator of metabolic homeostasis. Most evidence is from cell and animal studies; human work is early and largely observational.
