Oxytocin is a naturally occurring hypothalamic peptide hormone that acts on oxytocin receptors and is involved in social bonding, trust, and reproductive functions such as labor and lactation. In sexual-wellness contexts it has been studied for its role in pair bonding and orgasm. Evidence for effects on orgasm quality appears more consistent than for initiating desire.
