Pregnenolone

Also known as P5 · 3 beta-hydroxy-5-pregnen-20-one

PreliminaryOralMarketed as a dietary supplement in the US though it functions hormonally; not FDA-approved as a drug; not currently on the WADA prohibited list (status can change with annual updates)

Pregnenolone is an endogenous steroid hormone synthesized from cholesterol, not a peptide. It sits at the top of the steroidogenesis pathway and is a precursor to other steroid hormones including progesterone, DHEA, and downstream sex steroids and corticosteroids. It is marketed as a dietary supplement; rigorous clinical evidence for its common purported benefits is limited.
