Selank is a synthetic heptapeptide analog of the immunomodulatory tetrapeptide tuftsin, stabilized by added proline residues. Its most studied proposed mechanisms include modulation of the GABAergic system, inhibition of enkephalin-degrading enzymes, BDNF upregulation, and effects on serotonin and dopamine turnover. Research describes anxiolytic activity reported without the sedation, cognitive impairment, or dependence associated with benzodiazepines.
